Yes, preparing for a wedding can be tremendously overwhelming but I would be lying if I said I didn’t miss the fun pieces of planning. Seeing your creative energy come to life and involving those with extreme talent to memorialize the big day is the stuff of magic.
While Patrick and I have lived in Chicago for quite some time, we are both from Wisconsin. Meaning that the fair majority of our guests would be traveling to celebrate with us. For that reason, it was important that we kept our guests at top-of-mind. How do we deliver that “Chicago cool” that will leave a lasting impression? Yes, mini Chicago dogs were a good touch, but number one, praise hands, best decision, was giving Matt Roan the reigns at our reception.
While washing down a couple cocktails with Matt pre-wedding we not only discussed major songs (intro, cake cutting, first dance, etc.), but we talked about a “must” playlist, genres we like, and the overall vibe we wanted the party to have. The vibe we decided on was basically, “dance floor full.” Mission accomplished.
Walking in to our fully decorated venue with candles lit will forever be special, but hearing some of the music that means the most to us in the background was seriously the cherry-on-top. Catching eye with my 85 year-old grandma, old college friends, and the girl I met when I first stepped foot in the city while getting down on the dance floor was insane. Matt gave us everything we wanted, but also giving him freedom to execute what he does best made the night special for everyone. He elevated and amplified our reception into a celebration beyond our expectations while avoiding all those cookie-cutter dance floor stereotypes. Unexpectedly, post wedding, guests of all ages showered us with thank you cards and compliments noting how much fun they had and how great Matt was.
His talent for bringing people together is only surpassed by his positivity, effortlessly cool style, contagious laugh, and energy behind the decks. He makes the process simple- which you’ll be so thankful for. So many praises for Matt! Thank you!

It's the first thing I noticed when I met Matt ten years ago and it's true to this day. Another thing about Matt Roan: dude knows and loves music. So when my boyfriend asked me to marry him I said yes, but only if Matt Roan would DJ our wedding. Luckily for my boyfriend Matt Roan was available. We gave him a list of a handful of songs that we wanted to hear and left the rest up to him. And boy did he deliver. You know that moment when a DJ plays a song and everyone screams, "OH SH*T!!!!!" That happened track after track. The thing about Matt is that he's a ridiculously skilled DJ with impeccable taste yet he's completely unpretentious. His set was killer but he also took requests, seamlessly working them into the mix. All we wanted from our wedding reception was for people to have the time of their lives. They did, and then some, thanks to Matt Roan.

Once we knew where and when we would get married, the next order of business was securing Matt Roan as our DJ. We’ve been friends for 10 plus years and have seen Matt spin at bars clubs and events. We knew if we could give him a general idea of the vibe we want along with some of our must-have songs that Matt would take control and give us a kick-ass night of dancing. The result? He did just that! So much so, that not only did people tell us that night how great the music was, but they continued to tell us for weeks after our wedding. Hiring Matt as our wedding DJ was one of the best decisions we made for our big day. Our top priorities for our reception were food & drink, and awesome music. We did a lot of research and met with several different DJs, and Matt surpassed our expectations on all fronts. He was very personable and easy to work with and took the time to get to know us ahead of the wedding. We felt like he was a part of our team and really committed to crafting the perfect party. He truly listened to our requests and was able to balance our diverse tastes in music without the evening feeling choppy or irrelevant to certain groups of guests. Matt is not your average “wedding DJ” - and so many of our guests commented on this. The dance floor was packed the whole night and at least one pair of pants were split. I’d call that a success.

After Hannah and I got engaged, one of the first decisions we settled on was our DJ - it had to be Matt Roan. For our reception, great music and a fun dance floor was an extremely high priority. We'd enjoyed more than a few fun nights out in Chicago where Matt was DJing, so we had no doubt he would help make our party an unforgettable one. Throughout the process, Matt was professional, receptive to our ideas, and an overall friendly and helpful guy. A few weeks before the wedding, the three of us met up to review a list of songs Hannah and I had been compiling. We called out some must-haves, but otherwise just talked generally about tracks we both loved. Matt picked up on what we were going for right away.
The wedding was in Mexico and Matt managed all equipment and travel logistics smoothly. When the big night finally arrived, everyone from the extra-cool friends to our farmer aunt and uncle were shaking their asses. When Matt DJs, he’s bursting with positivity and joy, and it's damn near impossible not to have a good time along with him. He’s quick on his feet too. At one point, an over-served friend danced into his setup, knocking his laptop on to the ground! Matt stayed cool, picked it up and restarted, and the party was back on in no time.
Hannah and I were so happy with the way things turned out that night so, as you can tell, I can't recommend Matt Roan enough.

It was extremely important to us to have both a full dance floor all night as well as an entertainment aspect that differed from all of the other weddings we've attended, and we were far from disappointed. Matt Roan DJ'ed my wedding and it was nothing short of a perfect experience. My family is incredibly opinionated about music, between the groom, myself, and our families, there were a lot of requests for music ranging the spectrum from classic oldies to current hip hop. From this seemingly nonsensical list, Matt was able to create an amazing playlist that kept everyone, including the young kids, the grandparents, and even myself, the bride, on the dance floor all night! Even a couple months later, people are still talking about what a blast we had dancing all night! Even beyond that, he shines as a true professional. His positive attitude and ability to adapt to the inevitable last minute changes, made working with him a breeze! I never needed to worry about a thing, as he worked directly with our wedding coordinator to ensure everything ran smoothly. In a few words, Matt Roan MADE our whole wedding reception. When we first booked Matt a little over a year before, he immediately reached out to to meet Kent and I over a few drinks and get a feel for our big day. At our first meeting, he was friendly, welcoming, asked all of he right questions, and most importantly, knew how important music was to our big day. On the actual wedding day, Matt played throughout our reception, kicking things off over dinner with the perfect mood-setting music and was amazing at introducing different family members as the speeches went on. Once dinner ended and the dancing began, I’m 100% certain most people NEVER left the floor. He was just that good! He perfectly captured the mood of the party all night long, even playing a few parent-friendly hits (including country western requests from my Dad). Music was very important to Kent and I, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with our choice in Matt - not only is he an amazingly creative DJ, his positive, energetic personality makes the party that much better. I wish we could do it all over again!
